Absolutely spellbinding. Thank you so much. Planning my return to Florence for the exhibition early next year. Will watch out for your talks at Il British
Dear Alexandra, every time I read your substack, I am, again, floored by your ability to transport the reader into your experiences and thoughts. I will be ordering my copy of "Flying Creatures..." immediately, I cannot wait to go back to San Marco and revisit the freschi with this new lens you have shared! I absolutely love "The Marriage Portrait" and coincidentally am reading it for the 4th time at this very moment. I, too, find it delcious and look forward to reading it every year--it is one of the few books I keep permanently at my bedside. I'm looking forward to taking another of your lecture series at The British in the autumn. Enjoy the rest of the summer! All the best, Margeau
Margeau, your words mean the world to me, thank you! I love that you keep the Marriage Portrait at your bedside—I keep a beloved and very beaten up copy of the Aeneid which is strange for me because I’m not a classicist but maybe it is a Dante connection, who knows? See you in the autumn at the British (doing a lecture series on women in the Divine Comedy—stay tuned for more soon). Thanks again for your message and happy summer to you, too! ✨
This is a lovely tale and makes me like Fra Angelico a lot!
George Macdonald created ugly creatures of fantasy but great character in “The Princess and Curdie”
I wonder if he knew of Fra Angelico and his creatures?
Ohhhh now I am also wondering that, as well as what George MacDonald would’ve made of Tabucchi’s story!
Problem solved via Eventbrite!💪🏽
Great! So happy you will be joining us 🫶✨
Grazie mille! Registered 2x1 right away, though there was a problem with the second attendee receipt. Pls contact privately.
